In 2018, Gooding & Company achieved more than $201 million in total sales for 316 lots sold and posted a strong 87% sell-through rate at its three annual sales, held in Scottsdale, Arizona; Amelia Island, Florida; and Pebble Beach, California, where Gooding & Company is the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. In 2019, the company achieved an incredible milestone of over $2 billion since its inception in 2004.

“We continue to see a strong demand for genuine, no-excuse cars that combine all the attributes of rarity, performance, historical significance and provenance,” says David Gooding, the company’s Founder and President. “In this market, we are observing a greater divide between good, better, and best, and clients are increasingly selective with their purchases. This is why we strive to offer only the best examples from a variety of categories of cars and the reason why we see new clients become returning clients after each auction event.”

Gooding & Company’s auctions have become a destination for enthusiasts from around the globe, as a result of the company’s world-class presentation and vibrant atmosphere. “David Gooding and his team consistently offer automotive jewels in auctions that set the bar for the market,” stated Robert Ross of Robb Report. The auction house also attracts thousands of viewers who regularly tune in from over 60 nations to witness the auction events live via the Gooding & Company HD webcast.

Gooding & Company continues to set the pace in automotive auctions.

Now in its second decade, Gooding & Company continues to set the pace in automotive auctions. Collectors in 2019 have responded faithfully to the quality offerings at its sales, with 15 lots selling above the $1 million mark and establishing several new world auction records. At the 2019 Scottsdale Auctions, Gooding & Company amassed the top three most expensive cars across all auction houses. Top lots from Scottsdale included a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta sold for an astonishing $7,595,999, as well as a 1953 Ferrari 250 MM Spider Series II which sold for a world-record $5,395,000. A few months later at Amelia Island, the automotive world was abuzz once again when the company revealed a beautiful 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Runabout and the advanced 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach, both of which embodied the quality of classic and modern marques Gooding & Company strives to deliver. The Packard Speedster garnered $1,765,000, and the Spyder Weissach sold for $1,490,000.

In addition to conducting auctions, our team of experts offers a wide range of services, including private and estate sales, appraisals, and collection management. Gooding & Company orchestrates the private sales of many of the world’s finest rare and exotic automobiles. The company’s understanding of a collector’s motivation, along with access to an international pool of potential buyers, makes private transactions an easy and efficient experience.

One of the company’s most significant private sales was of a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, which realized more than $31 million, a record at the time. “The owners entrusted us to sell it, and we worked carefully to offer it to the people who would enjoy and cherish it,” says David Gooding, the company’s Founder and President. “It’s not just the price that made us proud, but the fact that we found a new home for this car, and buyers and sellers were equally happy. Now the car is on display at the Petersen Automobile Museum in Los Angeles, where people have the chance to appreciate that it’s an absolutely magnificent piece of art.”

Over the years, Gooding & Company has auctioned more than $32 million in collector cars consigned to benefit charity. Highlights include a 2015 McLaren P1 sold in 2017 to endow a chair at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, a 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic sold to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital in 2013, Jay Leno’s personal 2012 Fiat 500 Prima Edizione offered to raise money for Fisher House Foundation, and Sheryl Crow’s 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL presented in support of the Joplin Schools Recovery Fund.

The response from buyers and sellers has been gratifying, David Gooding says, and his business dovetails perfectly with his passion. “What I love is discovering the special cars, whether it’s a $50,000 car or a $15 million car, and really highlighting the characteristics of the cars and presenting them to our clients,” he says. “This is what we do. It’s what we know best and what we love.”
